Meet Tyron

Tyron.jpg

Greetings!

Growing up as a farm boy in a small town, my fascination with Africa and its wildlife began early. It was kindled during fishing trips in Zululand and family vacations to Kruger National Park, where I eagerly absorbed stories of the bush from my grandfather, much like the African sun soaking into my skin.

As I approached adulthood, my yearning to explore Africa's beauty intensified. Venturing through ten South and East African countries with just the essentials and a rooftop tent, I embarked on an overlanding journey. This odyssey allowed me to capture iconic species in bucket-list destinations like the Serengeti during the Great Migration, the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater, the legendary Maasai Mara, and Botswana's lush Okavango Delta.

Among my most poignant memories are moments of coexistence between communities and wildlife. In South Luangwa, Zambia, the raw essence of wilderness unfolded as we encountered a procession: a bull elephant leading a man on a motorcycle, followed by villagers with handcrafted farming tools, and Painted Wolves chasing an antelope through our camp. In Amboseli National Park, Kenya, where Mount Kilimanjaro's silhouette frames the horizon, I witnessed herdsmen peacefully sharing grazing lands and watering holes with the predators they cautiously respect.

Becoming a qualified field guide at a South African reserve deepened my understanding and skills. From the rugged terrain of Mana Pools to the vastness of Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, I honed my senses, attuned myself to nature, deciphered animal behavior, and learned to predict their movements. These experiences not only enhanced my wildlife interactions from vehicle and on foot but also enabled me to capture Africa's essence through photography, aiming to ignite in others the same passion for this continent that has shaped my life.

I hope my photography can bring to you the joy of Africa and all that makes it such an amazing continent. Africa awaits you!

All the best,

T. Walsh
