Experience a Dream African Desert Vacation with Wolwedans

Wolwedans is more than a collection of camps. It’s a collection of dreams. Its ethos lies in setting an example in sustainability and continually fulfilling its commitment to the conservation of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Their collection of Camps are nestled into the dunes and set against a backdrop of diverse and breathtaking desert scenery. Located in the heart of NamibRand Nature Reserve in southern Namibia, their elegant safari camps provide the perfect base from which to embark on exciting and interpretative safari activities or simply relax and enjoy the grandeur of the pro-Namib landscape

Wolwedans strives to set an example in conservation-centered, sustainable tourism. All camps are designed to minimize environmental impact, exploring innovative building techniques and utilizing sustainable technologies. Wolwedans is also the first ever recipient of the Green Flowers Environmental award 2018, provided by the Eco Awards of Namibia.

Their personal and informative scenic drives in open Land Rovers reveal the wonders of the wilderness. You will learn about small and large desert dwellers and their quest for survival in this harsh and unforgiving environment, and you’ll discover a diverse flora, ranging from resilient beauty to hardened survivor - not to mention NamibRand’s fascinating geology.

Game Viewing

The early days of NamibRand Nature Reserve saw nearly no game, but as the habitat recovered, wildlife population numbers also stabilized and seasonal wildlife migratory routes have been reestablished. From less than a 1000 springbok, the population had climbed to over 11 000 in some 20 years. The Reserve now operates at carrying capacity for most non-migratory species.

The predominant large mammals on the reserve are Oryx Gazella and Springbok. Other large mammals include Kudu, Hartman's and Burchell's Zebra, Giraffe, Klipspringer, Steenbok, Hartebeest and Baboon. Predators include Leopard, Spotted and Brown Hyena, Black-Backed Jackal, Aardwolf, Bat-eared Fox, Cape fox, African wildcat, Caracal and Genet.

A total of 21 cheetahs and 2 leopards have successfully been released on the reserve in the hope that historically indigenous species can populate this area again. Giraffe and red hartebeest have also been successfully reintroduced and their numbers now constitute a healthy population.

The reserve is furthermore a safe haven for the endangered Ludwig’s bustard, a large terrestrial bird species.

The lodge reflects the ambiance of a tented camp, but provides the comfort and protection of a permanent building.

The main complex consists of two lounges, a number of sundowner decks, a fireplace, a tea deck, a library, the wine cellar and two dining rooms. The lodge also has a swimming pool, which is suspended above the sand.

A shaded patio provides an ideal venue for meals and relaxed hours lazing in a hammock. Add to this a spacious lounge, bar cabinet and dining area and you have a wonderful home away from home. In the event that guests wish to enjoy their meals ‘entre-nous’; an open-plan kitchenette supports the preparation of meals at the Suite. An east-facing veranda and sundeck lead from the platform into the surrounding dunes.

The main veranda has a ‘star-gazing’ bed, which provides a wonderful sleep-out venue during summer. Keeping in line with the traditional Wolwedans style, the ambiance is that of plain elegance embraced by a natural, comfortable charm.
